
Evan Longoria hit a two-run homer and drove in all four runs to back James Shields’ fourth shutout of the season, as the Tampa Bay Rays blanked the Kansas City Royals 4-0 in the second game of a four-game series.
Shields gave up six hits, striking out eight and walking three in his eighth complete game of the season.
Jeff Francis allowed four runs on five hits over seven innings for the Royals, who have lost the first two games of the series and four of five overall. Francis struck out four and walked none and retired 15 straight at one point after giving up two in the first.
