Royals Blow 9th Inning Lead. Lose At Tampa Bay

It might very well be the most disappointing loss of the season for the Kansas City Royals. Sam Fuld hit a game-tying triple then scored on an errant throw to complete Tampa Bay’s five-run ninth as the Rays rally for an 8-7 win Wednesday night.

Fuld hit a drive to right center off closer Joakim Soria (5-5) and wound up scoring the winning run when second baseman Johnny Giavotella’s relay throw got past third baseman Mike Moustakas.

Aaron Crow gave up consecutive singles in the ninth, Soria then entered and gave up an RBI double to Evan Longoria, a run-scoring grounder by Ben Zobrist and a Casey Kotchman RBI infield single before Fuld’s two-out hit. It’s his seventh blown save in 28 tries this season.

The big inning came after Melky Cabrera’s three-run homer in the top of the inning put the Royals up 7-3. Cabrera drove in five for Kansas City.

The Royals wrap up the series this morning with Royals pre-game at 10:35am on KAYS (1400-AM)
