Hays Says Goodbye To Soldier

The Hays community turned out in droves to show support and pay tribute to a local soldier killed in Afghanistan.

The funeral for CW2 Bryan Nichols was held Friday with the service held at Al Billinger Fieldhouse on the campus of TMP-Marian. Residents of Hays began lining the roadways near TMP-Marian and along US-183 north toward Plainville hours before the 10 a.m service.

Under the escort of two Chinook helicopters and the Patriot Guard, Nichols and his family were led in a procession to Pleasantview Cemetery in Palco, where the soldier was laid to rest.

Nichols was one of 30 American troops killed in Afghanistan when their Chinook helicopter was shot down. The 31-year-old Nichols, was a ’98 graduate of Thomas More Prep Marian High School, and served with the 158th Aviation Regiment.

Memorials are suggested to Braydon Nichols’ education fund or to TMP-Marian High School, in care of the funeral home. Condolences can be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com.
