Kansas Oil Prospects Up, Natural Gas Fortunes Down

High oil prices are luring more and more producers into Kansas in search of drilling opportunities.

Meanwhile, slumping natural gas prices have sent that industry in the opposite direction.

New drilling techniques brought new producers flooding into the state looking for drilling opportunities, now that oil prices are high enough to offset costs.

There is no such thrust in natural gas, where interest in new wells is damp after trillions of cubic feet of new natural gas deposits have been found in the country over the past five years.

Oil and gas producers are talking this week about those topics and many others at the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association meeting that runs through Tuesday in Wichita.
