(AP) – A Chicago developer with Hays connections was sentenced to 6 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to trying to hire a hit man to kill a business associate who sued him.
The U.S. District Attorney’s office says 72-year-old Brooks Kellogg was also fined $100,000 Thursday for his conviction of traveling in interstate commerce in commission of murder-for-hire. Kellogg pleaded guilty in April.
Kellogg is an alumnus of Fort Hays State University and owns interest in several properties in Hays.
Prosecutors say Kellogg flew to Denver International Airport in October 2010 and paid $2,000 to an undercover agent he thought was a hit man. Kellogg had already paid $6,000 for the hit.
Prosecutors say Kellogg was trying to arrange the murder of a Florida man who sued Kellogg for $2.5 million.
