
The Fort Hays State women’s golf team finished 12th at the Northeastern State Classic in Tahlequah, Okla., on Tuesday (Sept. 20). FHSU was in 10th after the first day, but slipped to 12th in the standings on day two shooting one stroke worse as a team than they did in the opening round. The Tigers had a two-day total of 671. The tournament was held at Cherry Springs Golf Club, a par-72 course.
Tournament host Northeastern State topped the field of 14 teams by breaking the 600 mark with a two-day total of 597. The Riverhawks defeated Midwestern State by 11 strokes for the tournament title. Arkansas-Fort Smith and Arkansas Tech tied for third with scores of 641, well back of the top two teams.
The Tigers backed up an opening day 335 with a 336 on day two. Kiley Johansen was the top performer for FHSU with rounds of 80 and 82, a total of18-over-par 162. She tied for 24th individually. Jordon Nixon finished 38th with rounds of 84 and 82, a 166 total.
Samantha Hobson tied for 46th with rounds of 84 and 86. Samantha Nielsen rounded out the team scorers for FHSU with rounds of 87 and 86 for a total of 173. Carmen Thompson shot back-to-back rounds of 88.
