Hays High’s second half comeback falls short in the final minutes, as Garden City defeats Hays High 24-21 on Hays’ Homecoming night.
The first half was all Garden City. Hays High could muster nothing but punts and a missed 24 yard field goal attempt in the first half. Garden City led at half 14-0.
But the Indians came out of the half looking like a new team, and taking the score back to 14-13 in the 3rd quarter. Garden City scored on a QB run to make it 21-13. Hays High responded with a drive of their own, scoring on another Cardinal rushing TD, and getting the 2 pt. conversion to tie the game at 21 in the 4th quarter. Hays High couldn’t stop Garden City from a long, time consuming drive that ended in a field goal, making it 24-21. Hays High had around 2 minutes in the game to make a come back, but ended up turning it over on 4th down. The missed field goal in the first half proved fatal for the Indians.
