KSHSAA Releases Classifications

The Kansas State High School Activities Association has released the new football classifications for the 2012 and 2013 football seasons. This year’s classifications are based on enrollments of students in grades 9 through 11.

There are no changes for Hays High, TMP-Marian, Ellis or Victoria. Area teams that are changing classifications include Russell, which is moving up to 4A from 3A. Smith Center is back down to 2A, Stockton and Sylvan Grove-Sylvan-Lucas Unified move from 8-Man I to 8-Man II.

Other teams changing classes are Hutchinson moves up to 6A, McPherson down to 4A and Rawlins County goes to 8-man division I.

Classifications were also released for the 2011-12 school year, based on enrollment figures in grades 9 through 12 for all other sports. Russell is also moving up from 3A to 4A, Claflin-Central Plains is moving to 2A, Smith Center is dropping to 2A while LaCrosse and Osborne are both dropping to Class 1A.
