FHSU Ends Road Losing Streak With Win At Lincoln

The Fort Hays State Tigers were held to just 67 yards of offense in the second half, but they take advantage of two blocked punts and two Lincoln turnovers and snap a six-game road losing streak with a 24-21 victory over the Blue Tigers in Jefferson City.

Fort Hays raced out to a 14-0 first quarter lead scoring on their first two possessions. Lincoln pulled within a touchdown with an 84 yard kickoff return. The Tigers pushed the lead back to 10 with a 28-yard Tyler Kimbrough field goal following a blocked punt.

Lincoln freshman quarterback Jacob Morris scrambled for a 48-yard touchdown on the final play of the third quarter to pull the Blue Tigers within three. Fort Hays answered with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Chase Leake following a fumble recovery.

Lincoln would get it back to within three on quarterback Robert Redmond’s 4-yard run with 1:40 to go, but the Tigers recover the on-side kick and run out clock.

Andre Smith led the Tiger ground game wiht 94 yards on 22 carries. Edward Smith added 69 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. Blake McAhren completed 10-of-23 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Smith and Chase Leake both had four catches and touchdown. Ricky Jacques led the defense with 18 tackles with Alex Whitehill recording 14.
