The Country Bull Y102 Area Game of the Week features an 8-Man I District #7 between the Hoxie Indians and the Trego Community Golden Eagles in Hoxie. The Golden Eagles are 1-4 after picking up their first win of the season last week at Stockton. For the second straight year the Trego has played the toughest schedule in 8-Man I, their first four opponents combined records are 17-2.
The Eagles offense is averaging about 27 points per game, after averaging 23 points per game last season. The Golden Eagle offense is led by three underclassmen in the backfield and three seniors up front. Running back Cameron Staples was the leading rusher a year ago for the Eagle, with 1006 yards, and he leads Trego through the first five games with 651 yards and 9 touchdowns. Fullback Devon Ghumm has 212 yards rushing and quarterback John Griffith is back under center again this year. Staples along with Senior Blake Fritts anchor the defense for the Golden Eagles again this year.
The Hoxie Indians made a big splash in 8 Man-I a year ago finishing 6-3 in their first season of 8 man football. The Indians return six starters on both sides of the ball from last year’s team. Senior quarterback Colton Spressor was banged up in their week three loss to Osborne, but he should see some time tonight. Sophomore Chase Kennedy has filled in nicely for Spressor. Running back Dalton Snyder has accounted for 418 yards and 5TD’s. Hoxie’s leading receiver from last season, Jaxsen Moss, started out the season strong again with 13 receptions and 2 touchdowns. Moss, Steven Yergey and P.J. Carter anchor the much improved Indians defense.
Tonight’s Y102 Area Game of the Week begins at 6:30 with the Fort Hays State University Office of Admissions Pre-game show on the Country Bull Y102.
