A 1 point victory in Overtime at home? Does it get any more exciting?
No, it doesn’t. And the Hays High Indians did just that Friday night at Lewis Field in Hays.
It was a back and forth game, and the teams had ties at 7, 14, 28 and eventually 35 late in regulation. Headed into OT, the Panthers scored almost instantly, going up 42-35. After a 3 yard TD by Mark Mathis, the Indians were an extra point away from tying the game. But the Panthers jumped offsides, and gave the Indians perfect position to go for 2. David Cardinal pounded it in to win the game for Hays High, 43-42.
Hays High had 405 total yards, with 332 on the ground. Great Bend had 396 total yards.
