A one vehicle accident has claimed the life of a 25-year-old Hays man.

The accident happened at about 11:32 p.m. on Saturday, October 15th in the 200 block of Hopewell Road in Ellis County.

Officials say the man killed in the accident has been identified as Dustin J. Steinert of Hays. Steinert was a passenger in a 2004 Ford pickup driven by 31-year-old Scott J. Pfannenstiel of rural Ellis County.

According to the Ellis County sheriff’s department, Pfannenstiel apparently lost control of the vehicle, entered the south ditch and rolled the pickup. Both men were ejected from the vehicle.

Steinert was pronounced dead at the scene. Pfannenstiel was taken by air ambulance to a Wichita hospital.

The accident is being investigated by the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department.
