A one-time funding request from the Hays Arts Council is met with resistance from some city commissioners. The council is trying to supplement grant funding that ended due to the cut in state funding. Three of the commissioners, including Mayor Barbara Wasinger, expressed concern Thursday night about opening the door for requests from other organizations.
Arts Council board member Jennifer Saur addressed that concern by asking the commission to not make the decision out of fear of what might happen.
The commission discussed establishing guidelines or a policy to address this type of request in the future. They will make a decision on the Hays Arts Council’s request next week.
