At approximately 10:45 Sunday morning, the Hays Fire Department had a call reporting that a bus was on fire in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express just North of Interstate.

The bus was transporting the West Texas A & M men’s soccer team out of Canyon Texas who were in the hotel during the incident.

According to Hays Fire Captain Justin Kilian, the bus driver was doing his pre-check, started the bus and went back into the hotel. About 20 minutes later, the driver returned to the bus to find smoke coming out of the windows.

As of 11:30 the cause of the fire was still under investigation. Captain Kilian says they had the fire knocked down and under control within three minutes. The Buffalos are scheduled to play Fort Hays State at 1 pm Sunday.
