FHSU’s Benitez, Glynn And Babyak Named To All-MIAA Soccer Team

FHSU's Joanne Glynne and Cindy Benitez (above) along with Jamie Babyak have been named to the MIAA All-Conference soccer team.

Three Tigers earned All-MIAA Soccer honors released by the MIAA office today (Nov. 2). Cindy Benitez and Joanne Glynn were named All-MIAA Second Team, and Jamie Babyak was named All-MIAA Honorable Mention. The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team recently completed their first season in school history.

Benitez, a junior midfielder from Garden City, Kan., led the team in assists with six and tied the team-high in points with Glynn at 20 points. She added seven goals to go along with her six assists; including a two-goal and two-assist game in a 4-0 win against Missouri Western. For her performance against the Griffons, Benitez earned MIAA Student-Athlete of the Week honors, becoming the first Tiger to earn the honor. Benitez started 15 games on the season and appeared in 16 games total for FHSU.

Glynn, a sophomore forward from Lakewood, Colo., led the Tigers in goals with nine and tied Benitez for points with a team-high 20. She added two assists to go with the nine goals. Her best performance came in a 2-1 win over Missouri Western where Glynn scored twice, including the game-winning goal. Glynn made 16 starts for the Tigers and appeared in 17 games for the Tigers this season.

Babyak, a freshman defender from Austin, Texas, anchored the defense for the Tigers this season. Babyak was one of just four Tigers to start all 18 games this season, all on defense. On the season, Babyak totaled one goal and two assists for the Tigers. Her lone goal came in a 3-0 win over McPherson when Babyak hit a strike off a free kick from 30-yards out. She was part of a Tiger defense that allowed 1.5 goals a game.

The women’s soccer team finished their inaugural season 6-11-1 overall and 2-6 in the MIAA.
