Missouri Southern’s Jason Adams and Fort Hays State’s Katelyn Edwards have been named MIAA Basketball Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 4-12 as selected by a conference SID panel. It the first time a member of the Lady Tigers has been honored since Treci Keyser earned the distinction for the week of February 7 during last season.

Edwards led the Lady Tigers to a pair of wins at the season-opening St. Mary’s Classic in San Antonio, Texas. The Lady Tigers knocked off tournament-host St. Mary’s (Tex.) 70-60 on Saturday before downing No. 20 Tarleton State (Tex.) by a score of 67-56 on Sunday.

Edwards, a sophomore transfer from Crete, Neb., had 10 points against St. Mary’s on just 2-7 shooting, but she knocked down 6-9 free throw attempts. She also grabbed a game-high six rebounds, blocked a shot and recorded an assist in the game. Against Tarleton State, Edwards recorded the first double-double of her young FHSU career, scoring 20 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. She was 8-16 shooting from the field and 4-5 from the stripe. Edwards almost averaged a double-double for the week, scoring 15.0 points per game to go along with 9.5 rebounds per contest. She ranks second on the team in scoring and first in rebounding.
