Hays Public Library Part of “Snap Shot Day”

A day in the life of your public library. The Kansas Library Association organized the Snap Shot survey November 15th.

Hays Public Library Director Eric Norris says the assessment helps prove the relevance and changes in all the services at HPL.   Library patrons were asked which services they use and why those services are important to them.

One of the most popular HPL services is free computer use and Internet access, according to Norris.  Many people utilize it for on-line job applications.  The library has had public computer access for 1o years.

Norris says even though video and audio DVDs and Blu-ray discs are also available, books are still checked out regularly.

Last year, Kansas libraries welcomed 39,037 people and loaned 75,827 items. They also answered 4,411 reference questions, connected 10,859 users to the Internet and supported 1,945 Kansans in their job searches.

The Snap Shot project is conducted by the KLA, the Kansas Association of School Libraries and the State Library of Kansas.
