FHSU Men’s Basketball Defeats Baker

The Tigers dealt with a hot shooting opponent for the second day in a row, but capitalizing on turnovers was key in a 90-72 win for the Tigers over Baker on Sunday (Nov. 27). The Tigers moved to 6-0 overall heading into MIAA play, which starts Wednesday at Lincoln in Jefferson City, Mo. FHSU finished its non-conference regular season slate perfect for the second straight season.

Baker finished with a higher shooting percentage overall and beyond the 3-point line than FHSU. The Wildcats shot 55.3 percent from the field (26-of-47) and 60 percent (6-of-10) beyond the arc. FHSU shot the ball very well also at 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the field and 45.8 percent (11-of-24) beyond the 3-point line. FHSU scored 24 points off 20 Baker turnovers and attempted 22 more shots.

Kendrick Morse led FHSU with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, which included two 3-point field goals and a 2-of-2 effort at the free-throw line. Tyrone Phillips continued his hot hand of late with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting, which included three 3-point field goals, and a 4-of-4 effort at the free-throw line. Karron McKenzie finished with 15 and Matt Simmons added 12. Simmons also led the team in rebounds with seven. Omar McDade had a season-high six assists.
