Further Consolidation Would Lengthen Mail Delivery Times in NW Kansas

Overnight first class mail may be a thing of the past. The U.S. Postal Service is considering consolidating ten mail processing centers inKansas down to one.

Processing was already moved from Hays toSalinain September, and if the study is approved, that work would be moved to Wichita. Senior Plant Manager for the Central Plains District Roy Reynolds says the Postal Service is looking for cost savings and says this change would consolidate equipment and reduce transportation.

Several in attendance at a public meeting in Hays Tuesday night expressed frustration over mail delivery taking two to ten days if the processing is moved to Wichita. The move also could change collection times.

Public comments on the consolidation study will be accepted through December 14. They should be submitted to:
