Father Christmas Visits Historic Fort Hays Again Saturday Night

You may know him as Santa Claus.  The Victorian-era soldiers and their families stationed at Fort Hays called him Father Christmas.

Historic Fort Hays hosts its annual Christmas Past celebration this weekend, where the walkways are lined with luminaries and the officers’ homes are decorated for Christmas in the Victorian style.

Fort Hays volunteers, dressed in period clothing, perform holiday music.  Area Girl Scouts are making homemade Christmas cookies.

Visitors can board a horse-drawn wagon for a trip around the grounds, and enjoy hot fried apples prepared over a campfire.

Saturday night Gary Hicks will demonstrate a spinning wheel in the officers’ quarters.  Christmas Past is open from 7-9p.m.   Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children.

Be watching Street Beat Eagle Community TV Channel 14 for more from Christmas Past.
