The City of Hays and Ellis County are still in negotiations over management of the law enforcement communications center. The city has made a proposal to take over dispatch operations and hire a supervisor. Sheriff Ed Harbin says the plan, including the requirements of the supervisor, need more discussion.

Commissioner Glenn Diehl says the county needs to develop its own proposal so that everyone is on the same page.

The communications center is on the agenda for the joint meeting between the county and the incorporated cities Wednesday at seven at the Hays Welcome Center. The other agenda item is a potential county-wide sales tax.
