
The Fort Hays State Tigers were held to 31-percent shooting and outrebounded by 16 as they drop their first game of the season 61-45 at home to Washburn Tuesday night.
The Ichabods used a 12-3 run to build a seven-point first half lead and were up five at halftime. The never trailed past the 6:37 mark of the first half and pushed the lead as high as 16 in the second half.
Fort Hays State (7-1, 1-1 MIAA) hit just 7-of-26 3-point attempts and were outscored 32-12 in the paint.
Lance Russell scored nine and grabbed five rebounds to lead Fort Hays. Matt Simmons and Kendrick Morse both score seven.
It’s the fewest points scored by the Tigers since tallying 40 in a loss at Northwest Missouri State late in the 2007 season. It’s the fewest points ever scored at home since records of home and away games were kept starting in 1959. It’s Washburn’s first win in Hays since late November 28, 1998.
