Hays Police To Conduct DUI Saturation Patrol New Year’s Eve

The men and women of the Hays Police Department would like to wish everyone a Safe and Happy New Year. In an effort to insure the safety of the community, the Hays Police Department will have an increase in police presence on December 31st, 2011 for New Years Eve. Additional officers will be assigned to work a DUI saturation patrol in an effort to detour and decrease the number of impaired and intoxicated drivers on the street.

The purpose of the program is to saturate the city with roving police officers who continually monitor vehicular traffic for signs of impaired driving. Officers will also place emphasis on speeding, safety belt and alcohol-related violations.

The Hays Police Department would like to remind everyone that if you are going to consume alcohol as you celebrate the New Year, please designate someone who will not drink alcohol as your designated driver to get you home. The community will also have the Safe Ride available New Years Eve to help people get home safely. You may contact the Safe Ride by calling 785-621-2580.

The saturation patrol will be conducted in accordance with the Kansas Department of Transportation “I.D.D.P.” – Impaired Driving Deterrence Program.

Please feel free to contact the Hays Police Department if you have any questions.
