Senior Rachel Jacobs hit a three-pointer with 28 seconds left in the game Friday afternoon against Goodland in the consolation semifinals of the Trojan Classic and became the all-time career leading scorer at Thomas More Prep – Marian.
After suffering a loss in the opening round in the Hillsboro Tournament, The Lady Monarchs (8-3) responded with a 64-43 victory over the Cowgirls.
Jacobs finished with 15 points in the game and now has 1,327 points in her career. The FHSU commit needed just 14 to break the school scoring record set by Kaylee Hoffman. (Her cousin)
TMP only held a one-point lead after the first quarter against a now 0-10 Goodland team. The Lady Monarchs opened the game up by starting the second quarter on a 20-0 run ending the first half with a 38-17 lead.
TMP, the three-time defending champion of the Trojan Classic, received double-digit scoring from four players. Junior Heather Ruder finished with a game-high 19 points and seven assists. Senior Jenna Lang ended with 16 points and 10 rebounds and senior Rebecca Pray put in a season-high 10 points. Along with her 15 points, Jacobs added eight rebounds and four blocks.
The Lady Monarchs move on to play Republic County in the 5th-place game of tournament on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 11:30 AM and our coverage will begin at 11:10 with the Fort Hays Auto Sales Pregame Show on 14 KAYS (1400-AM).
