Ellis County is considering asking the voters to approve a sales tax with the proceeds used for any number of projects such as a new EMS station in Hays or improvements to the Law Enforcement Center. Each of the incorporated cities in the county also would receive a portion of the funds, and the county officials have asked them how they would use the money.

Hays Mayor Barbara Wasinger says at this point the city can’t do more than give some general ideas of how the money would be spent.

The city is considering spending the largest portion on street reconstruction and using equal amounts for quality of life and economic development.
