Slow Start To Second Half Dooms Tigers In Loss At Washburn

The Fort Hays State Tigers were held scoreless for the first five minutes of the second half and fell behind by 17 and lose 79-67 at Washburn Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers shot 54-percent in the first half including 4-of-7 from 3-point range but were held to 28-percent shooting in the second half.

Fort Hays State (14-6, 8-6 MIAA) trailed by as many as 15 before closing the first half on a 12-3 run to pull within six at the break.

The Tigers gave up only one more offensive rebound than they grabbed (11-10) but were outscored 17-1 on second chance points and outscored 44-24 in the paint.

Omar McDade and Lance Russell led the Tigers with 16 points each. Sean Dreiling added 10. The three were a combined 9-for-13 from beyond the arc.

Will McNeill led the Ichabods (16-6, 10-4) with a game-high 26 points.
