The USD 489 Board of Education voted Monday night to take over the Build Fast project and complete the fitness and weight training facility. The board room was full with people speaking both for and against the district funding the project. Board member Greg Schwartz says it’s the district’s responsibility to provide adequate facilities.

James Leiker was the only board member to vote no. He says most of the people who contacted him are against the district funding the project, and he wants the committee to finish it through fundraisers.

The district will take over the project from the USD 489 Foundation. The cost to finish the facility is estimated at $135,000.
