February is National Heart Month

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women. In fact it is greater than the next four causes combined. Cardiac Surgeon with the DeBakey Heart Institute Dr. Elizabeth Ashworth says it is a myth that women don’t have heart disease or heart attacks, but some of the symptoms are the same for men and women such as pain or pressure in the chest.

Women can also have neck or shoulder pain, abdominal discomfort or fatigue. Ashworth says some of the risk factors for heart disease for men and women is smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. February is National Heart Month.
