GIRLS: Hays 48, Abilene 26
The Lady Indians opened the game on a 9-0 run and were never really threatened by eleven win Abilene, winning 48-26. Hays High led by seven at the half and used a 10-2 run to start the second half to put little doubt to the outcome.
Hays High held Abilene to just eight field goals and six free throws. Abilene shot 16% for the game at 8 for 50. Hays High shot 46% and dominated the boards 44-25.
Hays High was led by Katelyn Schumacher with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Taylor Herman added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
The Indians improve to 12-4. Abilene is 11-7.

BOYS: Hays 52, Abilene 49
The Hays High Indians broke their eight game losing streak in the most unlikely of situations as they beat previously undefeated Abilene 52-49 on a Lane Clark three with two seconds remaining in the game.
Hays High trailed by as many as six in the second quarter, used a 7-0 run to end the third quarter to lead by 5. Tied at 49 each teams came up empty on two possessions before Derek Bixenman drove into the lane and found Clark for his second game winner this season.
Bixenman scored a game high 16, Jordan Windholz added 11. Hays made 10 of 22 3’s and shot 45% for the game. It is the first loss for Abilene who is ranked second by the coaches in 4A.
Hays High improves to 5-11 overall this season. Abilene is now 17-1.
Hays High is home versus Garden City on Friday in a return to Western Athletic Conference play.
