The Monarch boys were within five points a few minutes into the first quarter against the number one team in the state in Class 3A, but the Scott City Beavers went on a 12-0 run to finish the opening quarter and route Thomas More Prep – Marian 86-31 Monday night.
Monday’s action with Scott City was a makeup game that got postponed earlier this month. The final regular season home game for TMP resulted in the most points they have given up all year. (Previous high was 74 against Abilene)
With the defending 3A state champ leading by 47 points at the end of the third quarter the fans at Al Billinger Fieldhouse saw a continuous clock come into effect in the fourth period.
Scott City (18-1) had 13 different players score in the game including a game-high 18 points from their junior Drew Kite. TMP (11-8) was led by Jacob Fouts who had eight.
The Beavers have now won the last six meetings with the Monarchs. The last TMP win over Scott City was back in 2008.
TMP went 5-2 on the home court this year. The Herd will travel to Hutchinson this Thursday to finish off the regular season against Trinity.
