BOYS:  Trinity 43, TMP 37

Another poor shooting night cost the Thomas More Prep – Marian boys’ basketball team Thursday night in Hutchinson. The Monarchs wrapped up the regular season with a 43-37 loss to Trinity Catholic.

TMP (11-9) jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first quarter and led by five at halftime 24-19 but could not hold on in the second half.

Trailing by four in the fourth quarter, TMP’s Colby Schippers hit a runner in the lane to get the Monarchs to within two at 37-35. The Celtics (11-9) would close the game on mini 6-2 run to hand TMP their second loss this week.

The Herd was led in scoring by Kelton Schuckman and Nick Hammeke who had eight points each. TMP struggled to contain Trinity’s post player, Dustin Ohl, in the second half. Ohl scored 13 of his 21 points in the final two quarters of play.

The Monarchs have little time to worry about Thursday’s loss. TMP, who earned the #4 seed in next week’s Lyons Sub-State, will host St. John’s Military Academy on Monday at Al Billinger Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM.
