
The Fort Hays State Tigers overcame an early nine-point first half deficit to lead by six at halftime, then pull away in the second half to beat Emporia State 73-48 Saturday night in front of 4,523 at Gross Coliseum.
Emporia State had the hot hand early, leading 11-2, but the Tigers outscored them 29-12 to go up eight early in the second.
Emporia State pulled within three early in the second half but the Tigers score the next nine, all part of a 30-13 run that saw them go up 23. Fort Hays would lead by as many as 27 down the stretch.
FHSU shoots 52-percent for the game and hit 7-of-16 3’s.
Matt Simmons led the Tigers with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Sean Dreiling added 12, 10 in the first half.
The Tigers end the regular season 18-8 and in fifth place in the MIAA at 12-8. They will be the No. 5 seed for the MIAA Tournament beginning Friday in Kansas City.
