City Discusses Hazard Plan

Several government and school entities within Ellis County have approved the latest multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan, which was presented to the Hays City Commission Thursday night. Fire Chief Gary Brown says having the plan in place would allow the city to leverage federal funds if they are made available following a disaster.

The plan was developed in 2004, and this is an update that was funded through a FEMA grant. The completion of the plan allowed USD 489 to apply for and receive funding to assist with the construction of storm shelter classrooms at Hays Middle School.

The city will consider approving the plan next week.
