Hays High Softball Sweep Colby

The Hays High Indians swept Colby in a softball double header in Hays on Tuesday night.  The Indians moved to 10-0 on the season, while Colby dropped to 5-3.  The Eagles have had to endure three rain-outs already this season.  Though the teams used the same lineups in each game, the games themselves were wildly different.

Game 1: Hays 2, Colby 0
Hays High’s Katelyn Schumacher got the nod in game one allowing only one hit in seven innings of shut out ball.  Colby though had their chances stranding nine runners and had the bases loaded with one out in each the fourth and fifth innings.  The Eagles had the chances to score despite Schumacher striking out 14 in the game including seven of the first nine batters.  However Katelyn walked four and hit two batters.

The offense was provided by a towering solo home run in the third inning, that she hit into the teeth of the wind, and a RBI single of the nine hitter Haley Wells.

Schumacher moved to 4-0 on the season and 19-3 in her career at Hays High.

Game 2: Hays 11, Colby 0, 5 innings
Hays High scored two in the first, three in the second and six in the third inning en-route to a 11-0, five inning run-rule game.  Paige Lunsford hit a two run home run during a three for four performance that included three RBI and three runs scored.  Lunsford has now homered in three consecutive games and five of the last six games.  Freshman Hannah Hearld helped her own cause as pitcher by hitting a three-run home run in a three for three performance with four RBI and two runs scored.

Hearld pitched five scoreless innings yielding just two hits.  Hannah is now 6-0 on the season.

Hays High is at Great Bend on Thursday.  The Indians are 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference play.
