The Hays High baseball team picked up a couple of key Western Athletic Conference wins against Great Bend behind their offense, scoring 20 runs combined in the two games. In game number one Hays’ Austin Unrein led off the home half of the first with a home run and Trevor Henningsen added a two run homer to give the Indians a 3-0 lead after one. Great Bend battled back and tied the game at 10 and forced extra innings. In the eighth Hays’ Riley Kaus answered with a walk-off home run giving the Indians the 11-10 win.
Both offenses kept it going in game two with the Indians bats coming alive in the final two innings scoring four runs in the sixth and seventh innings giving Hay High Hays High the 9-8 win. This time it was Unrein providing a two-run double for the walk-off win. The Indians are 7-1 on the season and they are ranked 9th in the latest coaches rankings in class 5A Hays High will take on Larned next Tuesday.
