TMP-Marian Baseball Sweeps Larned

The Thomas More Prep – Marian baseball team posted 24 runs in their home doubleheader against Larned Tuesday afternoon and swept the Indians winning game one 13-4 and game two by a final of 11-1 in five  innings. The Monarchs have not lost a game since March 27th and are on a 15-game winning streak. With the two wins TMP went 4-0 in conference play and earned another Mid-Central Activities Association championship.

In a doubleheader filled with errors by both teams due to heavy wind gusts at TMP Field, the Monarchs scored 10 runs in their final three innings at bat. TMP sent 10 batters to the plate in a 4-run sixth inning to completely put away Larned (3-11).

Junior Shane Zimmerman pitched the first three innings for TMP (15-1) striking out three and giving up zero hits or runs. Pierce Schippers, Dylan Lang, and Nick Hammeke followed in relief of Zimmerman.

Every batter in the TMP lineup picked up at least one hit except for one. Hammeke led the attack going  3-for-5.

TMP took advantage of two monster innings in game two and finished the game in the fifth inning courtesy of the run rule. The Monarchs brought nine batters to the plate in the first inning and scored four runs, and then scored five more runs in the third inning.

Leading 10-1 in the bottom of the fifth, senior Taylor Pfeifer hit an RBI double to score the winning run. Pfeifer and Hammeke went 2-for-4 from plate and Zimmerman had a perfect game two going 3-for-3.

Sophomore Cameron Brin (2-0) pitched four innings to earn the win. Brin only gave up one run on two hits while striking out two.

TMP will close out the home portion of their regular season this Thursday against Great Bend. First pitch is set for 4PM at TMP Field. You can listen to the doubleheader on 14 KAYS (1400 AM).
