Extension Food Preservation Workshop Planned

The Ellis County Extension Office will host a food preservation workshop on Saturday, June 30 for those who have never preserved food at home, or those who need a refresher course.  Hours for the workshop are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2000 Main in Hays. 
 
This one day hands-on workshop will review the science and techniques of safe, high quality home food preservation  Karen Blakeslee, KSU food science specialist, will cover the equipment and ingredients needed, safe handling procedures and recommended processing methods for proper food preservation.  Participants will work together to prepare and take home several preserved food products.  Topics include dehydrating, freezing, pressure canning and water bath canning. 
 
The cost is $20 per person and the workshop is limited to 25 people, first come-first served, ages 12 and older recommended.  Register and pay fees by June 22 at the Ellis County Extension Office, 601 Main, Suite A, in Hays, 785-628-9430.  For more information, contact Linda Beech, Ellis County Extension Agent, Family and Consumer Sciences.
