Flags To Be Flown Half-Staff To Honor Kansas Soldier

In accordance with Executive Order 10-12, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff from sun-up to sun-down on Saturday, May 26th in honor of Sergeant Zachary Hargrove, a Kansas native who died on May 3, 2012 while serving with the 1st Infantry Division in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

“On behalf of a grateful state, Lt. Gov. Colyer and I offer our thoughts and prayers to Sergeant Hargrove’s wife, family and friends for their tremendous loss. His bravery and the sacrifices he made for our state and nation will never be forgotten,” said Governor Brownback.

Sergeant Hargrove will be laid to rest today at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

Sergeant Hargrove was a wheeled vehicle mechanic assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 84th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He served three previous tours to Iraq, including one with the 1st Infantry Division Headquarters in 2010. This was his first deployment to Afghanistan.

A Wichita native, Hargrove joined the Army in September 1998, assigned to Fort Riley since August 2008.
