Tornado Outbreak Kicks Off Memorial Weekend

A line of slow moving storms spawned several tornadoes Friday night in Russell, Rush and Ellis Counties.

A tornado hit south Russell, damaging homes and other buildings. One person was injured. Trees and power lines were downed.

About four blocks in LaCrosse sustained damage from a tornado that hit around 9:30. A car wash and three mobile homes were destroyed, and other buildings received damage, as did trees and power lines. There were no fatalities or major injuries reported.

The tornadoes continued through rural Rush County where damage assessments continue.
