Dry conditions have forced Ellis County to forbid the use of fireworks in unincorporated areas of the county during the 4^th of July holiday. Rural Fire Chief Dick Klaus says the fire danger is too great.

Historic Fort Hays is requesting no fireworks usage on its grounds as well.

Fireworks are permitted in Hays on July 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th and in Ellis on the 4^th.
