The Associated Press is reporting Luis Aguirre, 24, has been found guilty of capital murder for the September 2009 killings of his ex-girlfriend and their son.

A Riley County District Court jury returned the guilty verdict for Aguirre.

He had been charged with suffocating Tanya Maldonado, 18, and the couple’s 13 month old son Juan. A hunter found the bodies about a month later in a shallow grave east of Ogden. ‘

The sentencing phase of the trial begins July 9 to decide whether Aguirre should be executed or receive a lesser sentence, such as life in prison.
