Lightning Safety Awareness Week

There have been four deaths attributed to lightning this year, and an average 54 people are killed each year. This is National Lightning Safety Awareness Week.

National Weather Service lightning expert John Jensenius says all outdoor activities should stop and everyone needs to seek shelter when thunderstorms are in the area.

Jensenius says when inside, don’t touch anything that could become electrified by a nearby lightning strike. If you are outside, have a plan to get to a safe place if a thunderstorm develops.
