More Extreme Heat, Increased Risk For Wildfires

Hot conditions will continue today as upper level ridging remains dominate across the central plains.

Look for highs well above 100 degrees across much of western Kansas this afternoon. A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1pm to 9pm CDT across central Kansas where high enough relative humidity levels will combine with hot temperatures resulting in heat index values of around to just above 105.

Low relative humidities and gusty south winds will result in conditions favorable for wildfires across portions of central and west central Kansas as well. Therefore, a Red Flag Warning has been issued for this afternoon and early evening for an area generally north of a Dodge City to Pratt line.
