Midwest Energy Warns of Utility Scam

The latest scam floating around the nation targets utility customers. Midwest Energy is warning its customers to be aware of the scam where people are contacted about their eligibility for an energy credit offered by the President. The catch is they have to provide a variety of personal information.

The scam began in April targeting utility customers in South Carolina and Florida, but has since spread nationwide, although there are no known cases in Kansas as of yet.

Another version of the scam has the caller posing as a representative of your utility, threatening to shut off your electricity unless you provide your banking information. A Midwest Energy representative says they’d never call and demand your bank account information.

If customers have any concerns about contact from someone claiming to represent Midwest Energy, they are encouraged to call the company for verification.

The scam also has been spread through social media including Facebook and Twitter.
