The Monarchs (21-12) took advantage of four errors in the first two innings to grab a 5-0 lead. Iola (40-4) scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh and had the tying run at second base before Shane Zimmerman came in relief and struck out the final two batters for the save.

Starter Pierce Schippers pitched five shutout innings, never allowing a runner past first base and picks up the win. He didn’t allow a run and walked only one in his 12 innings of work at the state tournament.
