Larks Stay Alive at the NBC With Win Over Tulsa

The Hays Larks finally got the bats going, knocking off the Tulsa (OK) Braves 9-2 Sunday afternoon at the NBC World Series. The win moves them to the fourth round of the loser’s bracket where they take on either the defending tournament champion Santa Barbara (CA) Foresters or the Hutchinson (KS) Monarchs Monday night.

The game was scoreless through the first four innings with Tulsa starter Ben Moore retiring 13 in-a-row before the Larks put together a two-out rally in the fifth. Elvin Rodriguez drew a two-out walk followed by an Aaron Cornell single. Zair Koeiman singled to center off the glove of shortstop Robbie Freeman to drive in two.

Hays added two more in the sixth on doubles from Brett Lang and a fielders choice from Tito Andino.

Andino would drive in two in the seventh with a two-out ground-rule double to left field.

Hays tacked on three runs in the ninth on RBI’s from Rodriguez and Cornell and a throwing error.

Starting pitcher Aaron Breit picks up the win in his first game as a Lark this summer. The former TMP-Marian Monarch, who spent six years in the minor leagues, allowed just one run on four hits while striking out eight and walking just on over seven innings.

Caleb Hawkins pitched the final two innings allowing a run in the ninth.

Tito Andino drove in three while Aaron Cornell and Brett Lang recorded two hits each.

The win improves the Larks to 32-12 overall this summer and 3-1 at the NBC World Series.
