FHSU Men’s Soccer Climbs to No. 9 in NSCAA Poll

After a perfect 2-0 week, including a win over a top 25 team, the Fort Hays State men’s soccer team jumped to No. 9 in NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Men’s Poll released today (Sept. 25). The No. 9 ranking is the highest in the program’s short two-year history. FHSU was No. 15 in last week’s poll.

The Tigers, who are ranked for the fourth-straight week, went 2-0 last week to improve to 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in the MIAA. FHSU won in two overtimes, 3-2, against then-No. 20 Northeastern State.  Tomas Mares, who was named MIAA Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week, scored the game-winner in the second overtime. The Tigers then defeated Harding, 2-1, on Saturday.

In the Central Regional rankings, the Tigers continue to hold the top spot. No. 21 Lindenwood (5-1-2) moved to No. 2 and Northeastern (5-2) dropped to No. 3.

FHSU is one of two MIAA teams ranked this week. Lindenwood jumped into the rankings at No. 21, while Northeastern State, which was ranked No. 20 last week, fell out of the polls.

The Tigers welcome Lindenwood to Hays on Thursday for a 7pm match.
