Second Patient Files in Hepatitis C Lawsuit

A second lawsuit has been filed by another former Hays Med Center patient who has tested positive for Hepatitis C related to that carried by a former contract worker at the hospital.

Tom Walters, of rural Catherine,  and his wife Clara, filed Monday against a  Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania hospital and two medical staffing agencies.

David Kwiatkowski worked at the Hays Med catheterization lab for four months in 2010.  He was arrested July 19 in New Hampshire on charges of contaminating syringes used on patients, of whom at least 32 tested positive for a strain of hepatitis C carried by Kwiatkowski.

The first former HaysMed patient to file a lawsuit was Andover resident Linda Ficken.
