Commission Debates Pavilion

Several issues were posed by the Hays City Commission Thursday night about the pavilion proposed for downtown Hays. Most of the concerns related to the size and cost of the project.

Michelle Flax with the Downtown Hays Development Corporation says the concept started as a basic facility for a farmer’s market, but they were encouraged to make it a multiuse facility.

Commissioner Barbara Wasinger says the project should be done right and in step with the comprehensive plan.

DHDC is proposing that the city manage the project, which would require the funds to be in hand or obligated before work begins. DHDC and an anonymous donor have requested the city contribute $276,000 in cash and in-kind services.
