This is Fire Prevention Week, the nation’s longest running public health and safety observance.

Hays firefighter Brandon Zimmerman says homes need to be protected by working smoke alarms, and everyone should have an escape plan that includes two ways out.

The fire department has smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that they will install for senior citizens, people with limited mobility or limited income. Those alarms are provided through donations.
